Pear Shape: How to Dress a Pear Shape Body and Look Fabulous

January 27, 2022 · In: Petite, Plus Size, Women

A pear shape can be challenging to style when it comes to clothing. This is because a pear shaped body shape has curved hips and thighs which make clothing choices for this figure difficult. The pear shape body can come in any size, but their arms and waist are smaller than their legs, hips, and buttocks.

It is important that clothing for pear shaped bodies is not just fitted around the waist, but also that it fits nicely on your thighs as well. If you do not have any issue with your thighs, then wearing clothing that ends above the knee will look good on you. This way, the clothing will cover your prominent bottom half but it will still show off your legs which are the better part of the pear shaped body’s silhouette.

Pants and Jeans for Pear Shaped Body

Form flattering pants such as palazzo pants or jeans, or boot cut jeans that are fitted on your waist but fit comfortably through your butt, thighs, and hips are your best option.

This will create an A-line silhouette that will balance your figure. Avoid pants with pockets unless you have a skinny pear shape body.

Dresses for Pear Shaped Body

Dresses that give you a visible waist or that feature rouching in the waist area. This means that there are extra folds in the middle of the dress to make it look like it has more fabric when in reality, it’s just cutting up the material in a certain way to achieve this effect.

Tops for Pear Shaped Body

Tops with empire waists which are much higher up than normal clothing items. The higher location of the top makes it appear to stretch the clothing around your waist to create an hourglass silhouette.

V necks that are low cut but not too low where you can see the actual curves of your breasts. This will help balance out your figure because it shows off your shoulders which are slimmer than your hips. You also want to make sure that this clothing item is not too fitted so it does not make you appear bigger in the bottom half.

Skirts for Pear Shaped Body

Wearing skirts are the best option for full pear shape bodies. Tulip skirts, fit and flare skirts, A-Line skirts, pleated skirts, and bias skirts are best for a pear shape body.

How to Dress a Pear Shape Body and Look Fabulous

Pear shapes are curvy through the hips, waist, and thighs.

To find clothing that works for pear shapes, look for clothing styles with straight lines that stretch in proportion to your shape.

Straight leg or boot cut jeans are a great clothing style to wear if you have a pear-shaped body type, however, you may need to alter the waist to find a pant that fits your hips and buttocks.

If you want something more fitted, then go for skinny jeans or regular pants with no pleats or pockets in the front.

The most common clothing item for this body shape is stretchy dresses or hourglass dresses which is gives the impression of being tall and thin.

For tops, try any cute blouse or shirt with ruffles or detailed stitching on it. You can even wear an oversized shirt but make sure to get one that is not too long.

This body shape looks best in clothing with a waistline, such as empire dresses and A-line skirts.

For shoes, go for sandals or pumps that show off your toes. You can also wear wedges if you like to make your legs appear longer.

Also avoid wearing clothing items that highlight problem areas of the body, such as chunky belts and clothing hanging loose around the midsection. Avoid clothing items that are baggy like boyfriend jeans and sweatshirts or hoodies.

If you want to detract attention away from the lower half of your body, wear custom enamel pins to attract the eye to focus on the upper half of the body.

How to Dress a Pear Shape Over 50

Wearing clothing that covers your bottom is a very important step to helping create the illusion of an hourglass figure. Clothing such as coats, sweaters, cardigans, and vests are all clothing items that can help pull off this look.

Shirts that aren’t too tight on the hips will work well with a pear shape body. When you wear clothing that doesn’t fit into your natural shape it can make you seem wider instead of more slender. You want clothing items to skim over your body without being too baggy or hanging off of you in a way where they show extra fabric pooling at the waistline.

You also want to stay away from clothing that is too fitted on the hips, as this will make your bottom half look wider. The clothing items that you wear should either be a little loose or hang off of the body in a very hourglass fashion.

Hemlines can be another factor to consider when getting clothing for a pear shape body. When clothing hemlines are too short it breaks up your curves and makes them seem shorter rather than longer which can make you less proportional. There are many knee-length skirts, midi skirts, and maxi skirts that would work really well with a pear shaped body because they don’t cut into the waistline but create a smooth line around it instead.

When clothing hemlines are too long it can make a pear shape body appear wider, as clothing falls away from the hips and down to the lower half of the body which only makes it look larger.

Bottoms can also play an important part in clothing for your pear shape body. The clothing that you wear on your bottom half should be fitted but not tight because clothing items that fit snugly will only work to accentuate your problem areas. Items like leggings can create large bulges at the backside when you wear them with clothing that is too.

The denim you choose can also be very important when finding clothing for your pear shape body. Any clothing item that is super tight around the hips or presents a high rise can make your bottom half look larger, whereas clothing items that are snug but not too tight will actually work to create a smooth line and help you feel more comfortable.

The clothing that you wear on top can also play a role in clothing for your pear shape body. Clothing that covers the waistline is really important because it helps hide any problem areas and makes clothing seem more proportional. Clothing items like blouses, button-up shirts, and sweaters all look great with a pear-shaped body because they’ve been designed to skim over problem areas rather than accentuate them.

When clothing is too baggy it can make you look like a potato sack; clothing that is too large can also make clothing seem less proportional.

Clothing items like skirts, dresses, and accessories usually work well with clothing for your pear-shaped body. Accessories are often overlooked because they sit below the waistline but clothing items like belts and scarves can create the illusion of an hourglass figure once they’ve been tied around clothing.

Dresses that flow outwards from the top half or towards the bottom half will help accentuate what curves you do have rather than hiding them. When clothing hangs away from your midsection it makes it seem as though you have a smaller waist.

When clothing is too tight clothing can cause many problems like clothing that puckers, clothing that shows lumps and bumps, clothing that fits the body like a glove, or squeezes it in an unflattering way.

For the pear-shaped body, comfort is really important. You want to wear clothing items that are either loose or hang from your body in an hourglass figure fashion so they don’t add bulk instead of removing it. Clothing items for your pear shape body should be comfortable but not baggy because clothing should skim over problem areas rather than accentuate them.

If you’re going to a party and want clothing that will accentuate your pear-shaped body then clothing items like clothing with a wrap design, clothing items with pleats, or clothing with an empire waistline will all help create the illusion of a smaller waistline.

That’s how to dress a pear shape over 50.

We know how frustrating it can be to dress yourself, which is why we offer online personal styling and online personal shopping services for US$207.

If you’re going to shop for clothing for your pear shape body, then follow these guidelines. Clothing is often more flattering on a pear-shaped body when there are no bumps around the hips or if it doesn’t show any lumps that may have been created from problem areas. You can wear clothing that hugs your curves but doesn’t cling, and finally, you should try and find clothing items that don’t make you feel uncomfortable.

Thank you for reaching out for insights on a fascinating shift in the tech world’s sartorial choices. Michelle T. Sterling, an image consultant and personal stylist to tech CEOs and Global Image Group’s founder, has indeed observed that high-powered tech CEOs are elevating their wardrobe game, opting for what we call ‘quiet luxury’ to establish a distinct personal brand identity that resonates sophistication without ostentatious branding.

In Silicon Valley and beyond, there’s a sense of understated wealth that does not clamor for attention but rather conveys worth through subtleness. It’s a matter of personal evolution and an organic shift that comes with maturing in the public eye. Take Mark Zuckerberg, for instance. His style has naturally evolved as he aged; the fashion paradigm for him now heavily leans on blue and grey luxury basics that align with Facebook’s brand palette.

Jensen Huang’s bold foray into a black biker aesthetic is commendable and fits his Nvidia brand image, which appeals to dynamic fields like gaming and cryptocurrency mining. It’s indeed a stark divergence from his previous engineer’s attire, now commanding presence.

In contrast, Elon Musk’s style accentuates his roots, showcasing a classic approach interspersed with hints of his South African privileged heritage. His consistent look integrates seamlessly with the aura of legacy and influence.

Satya Nadella’s wardrobe choices seem to reflect his allegiance to tradition and the corporate ethos of Microsoft, appearing unadorned by the hands of a stylist but capturing the essence of the brand’s mission through classic and eminent ensembles.

Personal style development among the tech elite often mirrors the maturity of their brands and personal identities. It seems less about style in the conventional sense and more about crafting a personal image through clothing that simplifies daily routines while still making potent statements.

How to Find the Right Jeans for Your Body Type Jea How to Find the Right Jeans for Your Body Type
Jeans are a closet essential for everyone, regardless of your personal style or profession. However, finding the right pair of jeans for your body type can be a daunting task. With so many different styles and cuts available, it can be tough to know what will work best for you. In this blog post, I’ll break down the different body types and recommend the best jeans for each. Plus, I’ll share why scheduling an Essential Style Consultation with Sterling Personal Styling is the perfect way to identify your body type and what you should be wearing.

Hourglass Figure:

If you have an hourglass figure, you want to show off those curves! High-waisted jeans or boot cut styles are perfect for highlighting your waist and hips. Skinny jeans can be flattering, but you have to be careful not to create an imbalance with your curves. A good tip is to balance fitted tops and sweaters with wider leg jeans to keep your figure proportionate.

Pear Shape:

If your body is larger and curvier at the bottom than at the top, you likely have a pear-shaped body. The best type of jeans for this body type are ones with a flare or wide leg. This style will balance your proportions and create more curves on top. Avoid skinny jeans or super tight leggings, as they will only emphasize your bottom half.

Athletic Figure:

If you have an athletic body type, this means you have a slim frame with minimal curves. Skinny jeans will look terrific on you, as they emphasize your lower half. However, if you want to create the illusion of a curvy figure, consider adding a belt or wearing flared jeans. A good tip is to choose a high-waisted style to give yourself some length and to help create curves.

How to Style a Tweed Blazer for Women: 3 Tips from How to Style a Tweed Blazer for Women: 3 Tips from a Stylist, Michelle T. Sterling

Tweed blazers are an iconic piece that has been a mainstay in fashion for as long as we can remember. This sartorial staple exudes sophistication and elegance that can elevate any outfit, making it a must-have for every fashion-forward woman. But let’s face it - it can be challenging to style a tweed blazer without looking too preppy or conservative. As a stylist, I often get asked how to wear a tweed blazer, and I’m here to share with you my top three tips on how to style this versatile wardrobe staple.

1. Dress it Up with a Dress
One of my favorite ways to style a tweed blazer is by pairing it with a dress. Whether it’s a flowy maxi dress or a fitted sheath dress, layering a tweed blazer on top can add a touch of sophistication to any outfit. For a chic and feminine look, try pairing a tweed blazer with a slip dress and finish the look with a pair of heels. You can also swap out the dress for a blouse and a skirt combo for an equally stylish outfit.

2. Elevate Your Casual Look
For days when you want to look polished yet relaxed, styling a tweed blazer with jeans is the way to go. This combo is perfect for brunch with friends or a trip to the mall. For a laid-back look, pair your tweed blazer with jeans and a white tee. You can also dress it up by pairing it with dark wash jeans and heels.

3. Go Monochromatic
A monochromatic look is not only chic but also visually elongates your body. For a modern take on tweed blazers, try styling yours with a monochromatic outfit. You can pair a brown tweed blazer with camel pants and a camel sweater for a neutral-toned look. Or, you can try a black tweed blazer with black pants and a black top for a sleek and elegant look.

Styling a tweed blazer can be easy. By following these three tips, you can confidently incorporate a tweed blazer into your wardrobe and create endless outfit possibilities. Remember to have fun with your outfits and experiment with different textures and patterns to make your tweed blazer stand out.
